|—||Richard Castle to Katherine Beckett (via castillionism)|
We have a case
Jenny and Ryan are pregnant
And the not so interesting case continues
Beckett calls Castle and says they need to talk
The fucking swings
Castle speech (and I think he’s breaking up with her)
Castle dropping to one knee “Katherine Houghton Beckett….”
… will you marry me?”
Don’t get me wrong, I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Caskett and I ship them more than it would be healthy. BUT…
First of all, I don’t get why the job is such a problem. If Beckett hasn’t lied about the offer, Castle would have been the first to tell her how extraordinaire she is and how much she deserves the job and that she really, really should try and go for an interview. And then they would eventually talk about move in together. No biggy. Because this is what you do when the one you love gets an opportunity like this. And he proved more than once that he is ready to follow her to hell if she needs him to.
But she lied. Again.
And it was perfectly clear she wanted that job, but not once (in Watershed) it was also clear she wanted to stay with Castle. It seemed more a “I don’t want to piss him off” then “I don’t wanna lose him”. And I don’t get it because throughout the season, she seemed to be the one who was more serious and worried about their relationship and where they were going. (Which IS ok, since Castle has already married before and is more of a goofy kind of guy.) But during Watershed, she seemed ready to break up.
And what the fuck is wrong with these two that they can never talk? How are they expected to be married if they can’t even talk? Really!
Finally, I’m having lots of problems with the proposal itself. Ok I get it that the episode was built in a way so we believe they were breaking up and then be surprised at the proposal. And, yeah, it worked! But it was a sad scene and a sad proposal. First, when he says he wants more and she agrees, she thinks he’s breaking up, and she is agreeing. Ouch! Then, he drop to his knee in the fucking swings (bravo!) and proposes, but look at him! This is not the face of a happy man proposing, his eyes are pure sorrow. He is saying he’ll follow her whatever she wants and he will spend his life trying to break all her walls and, wow, that’s beautiful, but this is not marriage. Marriage is a partnership and lots and lots of talk and life-altering decisions. No walls included. Nor goofy answers to avoid questions.
So I really hope (with an aching shipper heart) Beckett answer she loves him, and she wants to marry him someday, but not now. Now they need to talk. And, yes, move in together, and really start an adult relationship together. But it’s not time to get married.
What do you think?
